Discover The Romance of Punta di San Vigilio

Punta di San Vigilio is a tiny peninsula located on the east coast of the stunningly beautiful Lake Garda in Italy. This intimate location is considered by many to be one of the most romantic places in the world. When we recently visited this slice of paradise we knew it was too special to keep this hidden gem to ourselves.

Paradise on the Lake
Punta di San Vigilio is located only one hour’s drive from Verona, the eternal home of Romeo and Juliet. Along the road be prepared for grand vistas that will take your breath away; stunning sheer cliffs on one side of the road and the gorgeous blue-green Lake Garda on the other side. Arriving on the peninsular you drive around the crescent-shaped bay to the lakeside property with a tiny village, a renaissance villa, and a luxurious hotel with a small private harbour.

Stay in Luxury
Punta di San Vigilio is home of the XVI century luxury hotel, Locanda San Vigilio. This exclusive hotel sits on the edge of the lake with a small private marina and has been hosting elite society guests since the 1500s. Some of the most famous visitors include Napoleon, Tsar Alexander II, Winston Churchill, Prince Charles, King Juan Carlos of Bourbon, Lawrence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. You can still stay the night in this historic villa in one of the seven exclusive guest rooms. Each room has been expertly furnished with priceless antiques and family heirlooms of the aristocratic family who have owned this property for centuries.

Dine in Style
Even if you are not planning to stay the night, you can visit the hotel’s Bar Taverna for a delicious lunch or dinner at one of the tables lining the private marina. Book a candlelight buffet on a Friday or Saturday evening and be there in time for the most spectacular sunset over the lake.

Stroll Past History
The whole peninsular of the Punta di San Vigilio is an oasis of romance. With romantic paths that will take you through gardens, parks and lemon tree groves that have been cultivated for hundreds of years. The idyllic country lane lined with century-old Cypress and Olive trees meanders towards the historic villa. Further along the point, you will find the small church dedicated to San Vigilio, from where this small piece of paradise on earth gets its name.

Fall In Love
This beautiful location on the edge of the lake will capture your heart forever. Agostino Brenzone an Italian lawyer in the 1500s fell deeply in love with this location and was inspired to build the beautiful villa that still stands today. He wrote of this location to a friend:

“There are three areas in the world: Africa, Asia, Europe; Europe is the most beautiful in the world; Italy is the most beautiful in Europe; Lombardy is the most beautiful in Italy; Garda is the most beautiful in Lombardy; San Vigilio is the most beautiful in Garda. Thus, San Vigilio is the most beautiful place in the whole world.” Agostino Brenzone, 1540
